How Your Peer Counselor Will Help You

Your WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor will:

  • Help you get breastfeeding off to a good start by preparing you during pregnancy.
  • Help you gain the confidence to reach your breastfeeding goals.
  • Give you practical tips to make breastfeeding easier.
  • Help you understand your baby’s needs so that parenting is more enjoyable.
  • Connect you with community resources specific to your family’s needs.
  • Be there for you when things don’t go as planned, and help you celebrate when you reach your goals.

What Peer Counselors Offer

The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program is here to support you in your breastfeeding journey with:

  • Prenatal education and breastfeeding support by phone call, text, in-person, or virtual.
  • After-hours breastfeeding support by phone or text.
  • In-person breastfeeding support at our WIC offices, including baby weight checks and latch assistance.
  • Referrals to our on-site Lactation Consultant.
  • Free pumps for parents who are working or going back to school, or who have a hospitalized baby.
  • Guidance on how to use a breast pump.
